Everyone is now speaking about meditation! You just HAVE to meditate BUT has anyone ever explained what meditation is and why it's even important? That's what I would like to speak about in simple to understand terms. Most people are already confused about this subject, so I will do my best to keep it simple.
As I started my spiritual journey in 2018, I was also confused about what meditation was used for and why.
Many spiritual leaders I was learning from mentioned having a meditation practice, as part of a good morning or evening spiritual routine, so I started to do that.
I listened to MANY spiritual teachers explain very complicated routines and this all confused me. No wonder so many go into overwhelm when the "meditation" word gets mentioned. Hopefully this brief explanation will help!
WHY do we meditate? Just to connect to our soul, or also referred to as our higher self. By doing this, we connect to our intuition, and we get guidance from within, vs. listening to everyone all around us. Until we learn to really LISTEN to what our soul is saying, on the best way to live our lives, only then will we truly be at peace.
So how do we do this? I'll explain my practice & feel free to tweak what feels best FOR YOU! There is NO one right way.
#1. Sit in a quiet place for 15 to 20 minutes. You may need to start at 5 minutes initially. In no way are you "stopping your busy thoughts" too. You can observe them, but considering you have over 60,000 thoughts a day, there is no stopping occurring here.
#2. As you sit, if it feels good, place your right hand over your heart space. Close your eyes and take 3 deep & conscious breaths. Visualize coming from your head into your heart. We are all in our heads, trying to figure out our lives. Release that control and allow expansion into your heart space.
#3. Make sure to set an alarm, so you don't fall asleep or worry about the time. When the time is up, you're done. Sometimes you feel nothing, but often you feel a bit calmer, or more centered. Over time of doing this daily, you may get ideas or insights pop into your head. That's your intuition, ready to help guide you through life.
#4. Automatic Writing: I pair this with meditation. I have a journal dedicated to this. I will meditate, then I will write on a page: "What do I need to know today?" OR any question at all. You will start to get insights, and you may feel or hear "advice" so write that down.
THAT'S IT! It's really not that complicated.
