Clear and Helpful Guidance for Your Healthcare Journey
Navigating healthcare can bring up many questions. Here, you’ll find answers to the most common inquiries about healthcare advocacy, how I can support you, and what to expect as we work together. My goal is to make healthcare guidance clear, accessible, and tailored to your unique needs.
This is someone well versed in the Healthcare system (Canadian in my case), who understands how it works and the best way to navigate it, and show patients their rights, for the best possible medical outcomes.
Great question! Navigating the Canadian Healthcare system used to be a lot easier. There were more staff, like nurses and doctors, along with support staff like X-ray techs, lab techs, even porters and orderlies (which don’t exist anymore).
Now there are severe staff shortages, and with shortages, we also are seeing people getting heavy patient loads and they are often rushing to get all their work done. Nurses and doctors often don’t have the time to explain what is occurring with your health, so now this knowledge is more important than ever.
Excellent question. I worked as a registered nurse for 35 years in Alberta before retiring in 2023. This was all front line nursing, so I am well aware of the struggles patients encounter daily. I also have an adult son with autism, that through my own advocacy for him, he was able to the first child with autism in Edmonton to receive specialized intensive behavioral therapy (1996), and many other families went on the also get services for their children in Edmonton.
Initially, I will sit down in person or speak to you over the phone or we can virtually connect. I will find out what is occurring in your life- why you consulted me in the first place. This call is complimentary too. I will give you valuable information, even if you don’t hire me. My biggest concern is making sure you start learning to advocate for yourself.
That can depend. You will need to ask the receptionist if this is allowed. If it is, absolutely. If not, we will speak before this appointment and I will give you a list of questions to ask, pertaining to what is occurring with your health.
When I was a RN, I worked a wide range of nursing specialties of front line nursing areas at 2 of the largest hospitals in Edmonton. I have experience on medical and surgical areas, palliative care, neurosurgery and neurology, burn unit, NICU (neonatal ICU), post partum, even Health Link. I am a very experienced former healthcare worker and with this knowledge, I can safely guide you through a better navigation and help you advocate for yourself.

Great question. I am NOT a doctor, nor do I hold a nursing licence in Alberta anymore. I would NEVER suggest anyone just disregard what their healthcare provider is advising them to do. I would ask more questions as to WHY you don’t feel you need to follow that advice, or help you find someone else that may explain your health concerns in a more clear manner. That said, we all have the ability to take in all the information provided, then from there make decisions based on that information. I can help facilitate that.
